Everyone needs to have car insurance in order to legally drive a car. The amount of car insurance that is required varies for state to state.
Liability coverage will pay for treatment if a person is injured or if any repairs need to be made to the car as a result of an accident. If a driver is found to be at fault for their accident their liability coverage will pay for this. Liability coverage will not pay for their own car repairs or their medical bills. This coverage is needed to help protect a drive from lawsuits and having to personally pay any damaged if they are found to be at fault. If the amount of money for medical treatment or repairs exceeds the amount of coverage they have the driver is responsible for covering the rest of the cost.
